Advanced Mentor Training

If your church has been using marriage mentors for premarital preparation, you know how effective it is for getting couples to talk about the things that really matter before they tie the knot - especially if it is done in combination with a marriage inventory such as PREPARE or ENRICH.  

Now you have an opportunity to take your marriage ministry to the next level by training mentors to work with existing marriages.   Like the premarital mentoring program, this is not therapy or counseling, but coaching to facilitate effective dialogue between a husband and wife.   It is useful for situations where couples have difficulty communicating or resolving minor conflicts, or simply need a "breath of fresh air" for their marriage.  

It is recommended that clergy attend along with their mentor couples, and that the mentor couples have some prior experience in mentoring engaged or newlywed couples.  (For additional suggestions on finding good mentor couples, call the MACV office.)

If you are not currently using lay mentors, we encourage you to start with the regular Marriage Mentor training, which is offered quarterly by MACV.   (see the Marriage Mentor Training page.)
